From ancient
times, the Chinese have sought divine guidance for their
major decisions. Some go to diviners, others may go to
temples to “qiu qian” where they pray to the deities for
answers. Usually, this is done with shaking a cylindrical
container with many numbered bamboo strips until one falls
out. A paper script with the matching number holds the
answer to the petitioner’s question.
The I-Ching Oracles is not totally unlike the “qiu qian”
method. Emperors from ancient times have relied on it for
their major decisions. Answers are contained in the 64 guas
in the book.
